Food truck entrepreneur brings Mexican flavour to NZ supermarkets

The Lucky Taco Founders, Sarah and Otis Frizzell

Auckland’s food truck The Lucky Taco is bringing its authentic Mexican flavour to New World supermarkets nationwide, following a major win in the 2024 Foodstuffs Emerge awards.

The brand will roll out its range of Mexican salsas and marinades to New World locations, with the support of Foodstuffs Emerge.

Founded more than a decade ago by husband-and-wife team Sarah and Otis Frizzell, The Lucky Taco first made its name on Auckland’s streets. The shift into fast-moving consumer goods began during the Covid-19 pandemic, when demand surged for at-home taco kits.

“Sarah and Otis have done something really special with The Lucky Taco – it’s full of personality, flavour, and a genuine love for what they do,” said Foodstuffs North Island CEO Chris Quin, who saw The Lucky Taco as a standout brand with the potential to shake up the category.

“That’s exactly the kind of energy and innovation we want to back through Foodstuffs Emerge – people with a great idea, a great product, and the drive to make it happen. It’s another small New Zealand supplier success with Foodies.”

The street food-inspired range is now on shelves from Kerikeri to Invercargill, set to spice up Kiwi mealtimes.
