Q&A: Oh My Frankie’s canvas to success

This week, we get to know Madeleine Nott, the entrepreneur behind Oh My Frankie, manufacturer of magnetic arch wall decals that can be drawn on. Conceived as a canvas for kids who like to draw on surfaces, Oh My Frankie managed to achieve a six-figure growth in just a matter of six months after its launch.

ISB: What is the inspiration behind Oh My Frankie?

MN: Oh My Frankie was inspired by my daughter’s (Frankie) love of drawing on the walls when we weren’t looking! Instead of stopping her creativity, I wanted to design something that embraced it and so our Multifunctional Wall Decal was born. It allows kids to scribble, create, and explore without limits, all while blending beautifully into any space. From there, we expanded into other open-ended play essentials, like our Oh My Scribble reusable colouring book and Oh My Snap Instant Print camera, all designed to spark imagination. Our goal is to make playtime both stylish and functional, turning everyday moments into something magical for kids and parents alike.

ISB: Being inspired by a product that was unavailable in Australia at that time, how did you balance making such a product available while also adding some Aussie flair to it?

MN: As a mum of two in a home where space is always a consideration, I wanted to create a product that worked for Aussie families like mine. I made our decal slightly narrower than the original inspiration to save wall space while still allowing plenty of room for collaboration between siblings and friends. I also carefully chose minimalist, neutral colors that complement modern Australian homes. It was all about finding the perfect balance—maximizing creative play without adding clutter, and ensuring the design felt stylish, functional, and suited to our unique market.

ISB: As a product designed originally for your toddler, what was her reaction to the toy?

MN: Frankie loved it! From the moment we put up the first sample, she was completely engrossed. She’s always drawing or painting on it and proudly showing off her creations to us. It has quickly become one of her favourite activities, it’s been amazing for encouraging independent play—she can lose herself in creativity for ages, which has been a game-changer in our home. Seeing how much joy it brings her made me even more excited to share it with other families.

ISB: How were you able to achieve near your target revenues in just less than a year?

MN: Reaching our target revenue in less than a year was a combination of determination, strategy, and truly understanding what Aussie families need. We focused on designing high-quality, stylish, and functional play products that resonate with both kids and parents. From the start, I built a strong brand image with an engaging social media presence, making sure my personal story and family were at the heart of our business. We also listened closely to our customers, continuously refining our offerings. The incredible response has been so rewarding, and we’re excited to keep growing and bringing more beautiful play solutions to families!

ISB: What is your vision for Oh My Frankie in the next couple of years?

MN: In the next couple of years, my vision for Oh My Frankie is to continue evolving into a go-to brand for mums like me—parents who want toys and decor that inspire creativity, encourage exploration, and look beautiful too. Hopefully we will contuine to grow our range with thoughtful, high-quality products that make everyday moments for kids more enjoyable and functional. I also want to grow our community, building connections with families who share our values of creativity, sustainability, and style.

ISB: What do you think is the one piece of advice that every aspiring entrepreneur should take to heart?

MN: Stay true to your vision and trust the process. Building a business from scratch takes time, and there will always be challenges along the way. Don’t be afraid to listen to your customers, refine your approach, and keep moving forward while adapting. It’s a journey, so embrace it and enjoy the ride.
